This course will review cybersecurity and physical security as it relates to the water industry fields. Topics covered will include:

Speakers:
Ryan Barnes - Cybersecurity
Ryan Barnes, a Cybersecurity Advisor at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) covering Maine in Region 1, brings over 14 years of diverse industry experience, including roles in telecommunications engineering, electrical utility, and cybersecurity operations, as well as service as a Cyberspace Engineering Officer in the Air Force. With a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from the University of Maine at Orono and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity Studies from American Military University, Barnes holds certifications including Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) from ISACA and Security+ from CompTIA. He has led the development of cybersecurity programs, designed and deployed solutions globally for entities like the White House Communications Agency and the Department of Defense, and joined CISA in 2022. In his role, he emphasizes collaboration and information sharing to enhance cybersecurity posture and protect critical infrastructure, focusing on tailored solutions to meet organizations' security needs and promote defense-in-depth strategies.
Jacob Kocek - CISA Physical Security
Mr. Jacob Kocek, a Protective Security Advisor (PSA) for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in Region 1, brings over 20 years of expertise in Physical Security, Critical Infrastructure Protection, and Law Enforcement garnered from the United States Navy and various federal agencies. Previously assessing physical security for hydroelectric projects at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Jacob holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Arizona State University and is certified in multiple Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers programs. Since joining CISA in 2024, Jacob actively collaborates with government and private sector partners in Maine, focusing on enhancing security and resilience through physical security surveys, training, outreach, incident response, and supporting regional events.
Susan Breau - DWP
Susan is a Licensed Geologist and the Water Resources Team Leader at the Maine CDC Drinking Water Program (DWP). She and her team work on drinking water source protection, emergency preparedness, response, and recovery, and physical and cyber security. Prior to joining the DWP, Susan was the Source Water Program Manager for Maine Rural Water Association for 16 years and served on the National Rural Water Association Peer Leadership Committee. Susan currently sits on the Maine State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), and on the WaterISAC Board of Managers. She has a BA in Geology from Colby College, an MS in Hydrogeology from Duke University, and a certificate in mediation.
